EFFECT OF PREPARTUM ADMINISTRATION OF GROWTH HORMONE-RELEASING FACTOR ON SOMATOTROPIN, INSULIN-LIKE GROWTH FACTOR-I, MILK-PRODUCTION, AND POSTPARTUM RETURN TO OVARIAN ACTIVITY IN PRIMIPAROUS BEEF HEIFERS

JOURNAL OF ANIMAL SCIENCE, 70(5), 1478–1487.

By: R. Simpson n, J. Armstrong n & R. Harvey n

author keywords: HEIFERS; GROWTH HORMONE-RELEASING FACTOR; SOMATOTROPIN; INSULIN-LIKE GROWTH FACTOR; BODY WEIGHT; POSTPARTUM INTERVAL
MeSH headings : Animals; Animals, Suckling / growth & development; Blood Glucose / analysis; Body Weight / drug effects; Cattle / blood; Cattle / growth & development; Cattle / physiology; Estrus / drug effects; Fatty Acids, Nonesterified / blood; Female; Growth Hormone / blood; Growth Hormone-Releasing Hormone / pharmacology; Hormones / blood; Insulin / blood; Insulin-Like Growth Factor I / analysis; Lactation / drug effects; Ovary / drug effects; Ovary / physiology; Postpartum Period / drug effects
TL;DR: Results indicate that prepartum administration of GRF altered the release pattern of ST after parturition and was associated with greater PP BW loss and delayed PP return to ovarian activity in heifers. (via Semantic Scholar)

EFFECT OF ACTIVE IMMUNIZATION AGAINST GROWTH HORMONE-RELEASING FACTOR ON GROWTH AND ONSET OF PUBERTY IN BEEF HEIFERS

JOURNAL OF ANIMAL SCIENCE, 69(12), 4914–4924.

By: R. Simpson n, J. Armstrong n, R. Harvey n, D. Miller n, E. Heimer n & R. Campbell n

author keywords: HEIFER; PUBERTY; GHRF; SOMATOTROPIN; IGF-I; INSULIN
MeSH headings : Animals; Cattle / growth & development; Cattle / physiology; Female; Growth Hormone / blood; Growth Hormone-Releasing Hormone / immunology; Immunization / veterinary; Immunization, Secondary / veterinary; Insulin / blood; Insulin-Like Growth Factor I / analysis; Sexual Maturation; Weight Gain
TL;DR: It is proposed that ST and IGF-I are important metabolic mediators involved in the initiation of puberty in heifers, and GRF immunization led to lowered feed intake, ADG, and feed efficiency, increased fat depth, and delayed onset of puberty. (via Semantic Scholar)
