Assessment of Lactobacillus gasseri as a Candidate Oral Vaccine Vector

CLINICAL AND VACCINE IMMUNOLOGY, 18(11), 1834–1844.

By: L. Stoeker n, S. Nordone n, S. Gunderson n, L. Zhang n, A. Kajikawa n, A. LaVoy n, M. Miller n, T. Klaenhammer n, G. Dean n

MeSH headings : Adjuvants, Immunologic / genetics; Administration, Oral; Animals; B-Lymphocytes / immunology; Bacterial Vaccines / administration & dosage; Bacterial Vaccines / genetics; Bacterial Vaccines / immunology; Blood / immunology; Colon / immunology; Cytokines / metabolism; Dendritic Cells / immunology; Dendritic Cells / microbiology; Drug Carriers / administration & dosage; Female; Flagellin / genetics; Genetic Vectors; Humans; Intestinal Mucosa / immunology; Lactobacillus / genetics; Lactobacillus / immunology; Mice; Mice, Inbred BALB C; Plasmids; Toll-Like Receptor 5 / immunology
TL;DR: In vivo studies established that treatment with L. gasseri led to a diversification of B-cell populations in the lamina propria of the murine colon and a significant decrease in the percentage of FoxP3+ colonic lymphocytes, and in vivo data clarify the interaction of L. Gasseri with the host immune system and support further investigation of the in vivo immunogenicity of the vector. (via Semantic Scholar)

VACCINE, 28(19), 3409–3415.

By: A. Kajikawa* & S. Igimi

author keywords: Lactobacillus; Flagellin; TLR5
MeSH headings : Animals; Antigens, Bacterial / genetics; Antigens, Bacterial / immunology; Bacterial Proteins / genetics; Bacterial Proteins / immunology; Caco-2 Cells; Female; Flagellin / genetics; Flagellin / immunology; Genetic Vectors; Humans; Lacticaseibacillus casei / genetics; Mice; Mice, Inbred C3H; Salmonella Vaccines / genetics; Salmonella Vaccines / immunology; Th1 Cells / immunology; Th2 Cells / immunology
TL;DR: The results showed that the outside epitope of the heterologous antigen was recognized more easily by the immune system than the inside epitope, although some of the responses were mixed. (via Semantic Scholar)
