2000 journal article

Influence of vitamin A injection before mating on oocyte development, follicular hormones, and ovulation in gilts fed high-energy diets

Journal of Animal Science, 78(6), 1598–1607.

By: S. Whaley n, V. Hedgpeth n, C. Farin n, N. Martus n, F. Jayes n & J. Britt n

MeSH headings : Animal Feed; Animals; Dinoprost / metabolism; Embryonic and Fetal Development / drug effects; Energy Metabolism; Estradiol / metabolism; Female; Follicle Stimulating Hormone / blood; Granulosa Cells / drug effects; Granulosa Cells / metabolism; Insulin-Like Growth Factor I / metabolism; Luteinizing Hormone / blood; Oocytes / drug effects; Oocytes / growth & development; Ovulation / drug effects; Progesterone / metabolism; Sexual Behavior, Animal / drug effects; Swine / metabolism; Vitamin A / pharmacology
TL;DR: Evidence is provided that vitamin A may influence embryonic development by advancing resumption of meiosis and altering follicular hormonal environment during follicle maturation and treatment with vitamin A in vivo did not affect LH-stimulated or unstimulated secretion of progesterone by granulosa cells in vitro. 1997 journal article

Role of gonadotropin-releasing hormone pulse frequency in differential regulation of gonadotropins in the gilt

BIOLOGY OF REPRODUCTION, 56(4), 1012–1019.

MeSH headings : Activity Cycles; Animals; Antibody Formation; Drug Administration Schedule; Female; Follicle Stimulating Hormone / blood; Follicle Stimulating Hormone / metabolism; Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone / administration & dosage; Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone / analogs & derivatives; Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone / immunology; Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone / pharmacology; Luteinizing Hormone / blood; Luteinizing Hormone / metabolism; Ovariectomy; Radioimmunoassay; Swine
TL;DR: The results of this study imply that the LH surge is terminated because the pituitary gland becomes incapable of responding to an otherwise adequate stimulus, and not because of exhaustion of releasable LH pools. (via Semantic Scholar)
