TL;DR: Highly electron deficient monoaryl, di-aryl and bis-diaryl acetonitriles were effectively synthesized using either a nucleophilic aromatic substitution (NAS) or a palladium-mediated coupling pathway, indicating the sensitivity of the reaction to steric and ligand electronic effects.
