By: W. Haschek*, M. Berenbaum*, D. Hinton*, M. Cora*, N. Chernoff*, G. Travlos*, C. Liu*, K. Lu*, M. Law n

author keywords: toxicologic pathology; ecotoxicology; One Health; pollutants; bees; fish; PFAS; hazardous algal blooms; cyanotoxins; microbiome; arsenic; sucralose
MeSH headings : Animals; Biomedical Research / methods; Congresses as Topic; Ecosystem; Environmental Pollutants / toxicity; Models, Animal; One Health; Pathology
TL;DR: The interactions of pesticides, pathogens, phytochemicals, and xenobiotic biotransformation in bee colony losses critical for food security, and the processing of environmental carcinogens by intestinal microbiota are explored. (via Semantic Scholar)

Comparison of automated versus manual neutrophil counts for the detection of cellular abnormalities in dogs receiving chemotherapy: 50 cases (May to June 2008)

JAVMA-JOURNAL OF THE AMERICAN VETERINARY MEDICAL ASSOCIATION, 242(11), 1539–1543.

By: M. Cora n, J. Neel*, C. Grindem*, G. Kissling & P. Hess*

Contributors: M. Cora n, J. Neel*, C. Grindem*, G. Kissling & P. Hess*

MeSH headings : Animals; Antineoplastic Agents / adverse effects; Antineoplastic Agents / therapeutic use; Dog Diseases / blood; Dog Diseases / drug therapy; Dogs; Neoplasms / drug therapy; Neoplasms / veterinary; Neutropenia / chemically induced; Neutropenia / diagnosis; Neutropenia / veterinary; Neutrophils / physiology; Retrospective Studies
TL;DR: An automated CBC appears to be accurate for neutrophil counts, but a microscopic examination of the corresponding blood smear is still recommended; further studies are needed to determine whether the detection or frequency of these abnormalities would differ dependent on chemotherapy protocol, neoplastic disease, and decision thresholds used by the oncologist in the ordering of a CBC without a blood smear evaluation.
