TL;DR:
DNA and DNA were used to show that an 86-base pair fragment controlled iron-mediated derepression of the ferritin gene, and FRE/factor binding was abrogated by increased tissue iron, in analogy to mRNA (IRE)/iron regulatory protein in animals.
