author keywords: alpha lipoic acid (LA); Fe; ferritin; oxidative damage; calcein; labile Fe pool
MeSH headings : Animals; Antioxidants / pharmacology; Ascorbic Acid / pharmacology; Cells, Cultured; Dogs; Dose-Response Relationship, Drug; Epithelial Cells / drug effects; Epithelial Cells / metabolism; Ferritins / biosynthesis; Ferritins / metabolism; Hydrogen Peroxide / antagonists & inhibitors; Hydrogen Peroxide / pharmacology; Iron / pharmacokinetics; Lens Capsule, Crystalline / cytology; Lens Capsule, Crystalline / drug effects; Lens Capsule, Crystalline / metabolism; Oxidative Stress / drug effects; Thioctic Acid / pharmacology
TL;DR: In vivo effects of lipoic acid treatment on Fe metabolism in cultured lens epithelial cells are examined, and it is found that LA decreases Fe uptake from transferrin, increases Fe deposition into ferritin and increases the concentration of this protein. (via Semantic Scholar)
