Harnessing Hot Electrons from Near IR Light for Hydrogen Production Using Pt-End-Capped-AuNRs

ACS APPLIED MATERIALS & INTERFACES, 9(31), 25962–25969.

By: N. Ortiz n, B. Zoellner n, S. Hong n, Y. Jo, T. Wang n, Y. Liu n, P. Maggard n, G. Wang n

author keywords: Pt-end-capped gold nanorods; surface plasmon resonance; hot electrons; photocatalysts; H-2 production
TL;DR: It is shown that gold nanorods are excellent for converting low-energy photons into high-energy hot electrons, which can be used to drive chemical reactions at their surfaces, and Tuning of the surface plasmon resonance wavelength of AuNRs changes the hydrogen gas production rate, indicating that SPR is involved in hot electron generation and photoreduction of hydrogen ions.
