Surface-guided templating of particle assemblies inside drying sessile droplets

LANGMUIR, 24(4), 1371–1380.

By: D. Kuncicky n & O. Velev n

Contributors: D. Kuncicky n & O. Velev n

MeSH headings : Air; Colloids / chemistry; Desiccation / methods; Diffusion; Electrolytes / chemistry; Gold / chemistry; Kinetics; Microscopy, Electron, Scanning; Microspheres; Nanostructures / chemistry; Nanostructures / ultrastructure; Particle Size; Surface Properties; Water / chemistry
TL;DR: The kinetics of drying were examined by measurements of droplet profiles, and it was found that the rate matched diffusion-limited evaporation well and the shape of the droplets and of the resulting assemblies was correlated to the dynamics of the receding contact line.
