2008 journal article

Chemical response of hardwood oligosaccharides as a statistical function of isolation protocol

JOURNAL OF AGRICULTURAL AND FOOD CHEMISTRY, 56(9), 2953–2959.

By: L. Ban n, X. Chai n, J. Guo n, W. Ban n & L. Lucia n

author keywords: hardwoods; hemicelluloses; extraction; pH; temperature
MeSH headings : Carboxylic Acids / analysis; Hydrogen-Ion Concentration; Lignin / isolation & purification; Oligosaccharides / chemistry; Oligosaccharides / isolation & purification; Polysaccharides / chemistry; Polysaccharides / isolation & purification; Solubility; Temperature; Wood / chemistry
TL;DR: A fundamental exploration of the function of extraction pH, temperature, and time on the final chemical properties of the extracted hemicelluloses showed that acidic conditions provided a higher extractive yield versus alkaline conditions and an alkaline environment gave higher yields.
