Effect of substrate temperature on mechanical properties of calcium phosphate coatings

JOURNAL OF BIOMEDICAL MATERIALS RESEARCH PART B-APPLIED BIOMATERIALS, 85B(1), 60–67.

By: T. Blalock n, X. Bai n, R. Narayan n & A. Rabiei n

MeSH headings : Adhesiveness; Calcium Phosphates / chemistry; Coated Materials, Biocompatible / chemistry; Durapatite / chemistry; Materials Testing; Surface Properties; Temperature; Titanium / chemistry
TL;DR: It is concluded that depositing FGHA coatings would better be started at 550-650 degrees C to maintain superior properties of the film at the interface and the residual stresses caused by different Coefficient of Thermal Expansions between the substrate and coatings are not the only factor controlling the bonding strength and mechanical properties of these samples. Microstructure, mechanical properties, and biological response to functionally graded HA coatings

Rabiei, A., Blalock, T., Thomas, B., Cuomo, J., Yang, Y., & Ong, J. (2007, April). MATERIALS SCIENCE & ENGINEERING C-BIOMIMETIC AND SUPRAMOLECULAR SYSTEMS, Vol. 27, pp. 529–533.

By: A. Rabiei n, T. Blalock n, B. Thomas n, J. Cuomo n, Y. Yang* & J. Ong*

author keywords: hydroxyapatite; graded crystallinity; nano-grain
TL;DR: A biocompatible coating comprising an HA film with functionally graded crystallinity is being deposited on a heated substrate in an Ion Beam Ass Deposition (IBAD) system and results have shown superior mechanical properties and biological response to the functionally graded HA film.
