Role of p38 MAPK in LPS induced pro-inflammatory cytokine and chemokine gene expression in equine leukocytes

VETERINARY IMMUNOLOGY AND IMMUNOPATHOLOGY, 129(3-4), 192–199.

By: L. Neuder n, J. Keener n, R. Eckert n, J. Trujillo n & S. Jones n

author keywords: Endotoxemia; LPS; p38 MAPK; Equine; Leukocytes; Inflammation
MeSH headings : Animals; Cells, Cultured; Chemokines / genetics; Chemokines / metabolism; Cytokines / genetics; Cytokines / metabolism; Gene Expression Regulation / physiology; Horses / blood; Horses / immunology; Horses / metabolism; Leukocytes / drug effects; Leukocytes / metabolism; Lipopolysaccharides / pharmacology; RNA, Messenger / metabolism; Signal Transduction / drug effects; Signal Transduction / physiology; p38 Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinases / metabolism
TL;DR: TNFalpha,IL-1beta, IL-6 and IL-8 are induced upon LPS stimulation of equine leukocytes and that this induction of gene expression is dependent on the p38 MAPK pathway, however, there are differences in the efficacy of the p 38 inhibitors tested here that may be explained by differences in specificity or potency. p38 mitogen-activated kinase (MAPK) is essential for equine neutrophil migration

VETERINARY IMMUNOLOGY AND IMMUNOPATHOLOGY, 129(3-4), 181–191.

By: R. Eckert n, Y. Sharief n & S. Jones n

author keywords: Other animals; Inflammation; Laminitis
MeSH headings : Animals; CD18 Antigens / metabolism; Cell Adhesion; Cells, Cultured; Chemotaxis, Leukocyte / physiology; Dose-Response Relationship, Drug; Enzyme Inhibitors / pharmacology; Gene Expression Regulation / physiology; Horses / physiology; Imidazoles / pharmacology; Inflammation / metabolism; Leukotriene B4 / metabolism; Neutrophils / metabolism; Pyridines / pharmacology; p38 Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinases / antagonists & inhibitors; p38 Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinases / metabolism
TL;DR: Findings support a function for p38 MAPK in equine neutrophil migration and suggest the potential for the ability of p38MAPK inhibition to limit neutrophilic inflammation in the laminae during acute laminitis. (via Semantic Scholar)
