AMERICAN JOURNAL OF RESPIRATORY CELL AND MOLECULAR BIOLOGY, 42(5), 586–594.

By: R. Eckert n, L. Neuder*, J. Park*, K. Adler* & S. Jones*

author keywords: inflammation; adhesion; beta 2 integrin; actin
MeSH headings : Actins / metabolism; CD18 Antigens / metabolism; Cell Adhesion / drug effects; Cell Membrane / drug effects; Cell Membrane / metabolism; Cell Polarity / drug effects; Chemotactic Factors / pharmacology; Chemotaxis, Leukocyte / drug effects; Humans; Intracellular Signaling Peptides and Proteins / metabolism; Membrane Proteins / metabolism; Myristoylated Alanine-Rich C Kinase Substrate; N-Formylmethionine Leucyl-Phenylalanine / pharmacology; Neutrophils / cytology; Neutrophils / drug effects; Neutrophils / metabolism; Peptides / pharmacology; Tetradecanoylphorbol Acetate / pharmacology
TL;DR: Treating isolated human neutrophils with MANS significantly inhibited both their migration and beta2 integrin-dependent adhesion in response to N-formyl-methionyl-leucyl-phenylalanine (fMLF), IL-8, or leukotriene (LT)B(4). (via Semantic Scholar)

Role of p38 MAPK in LPS induced pro-inflammatory cytokine and chemokine gene expression in equine leukocytes

VETERINARY IMMUNOLOGY AND IMMUNOPATHOLOGY, 129(3-4), 192–199.

By: L. Neuder n, J. Keener n, R. Eckert n, J. Trujillo n & S. Jones n

author keywords: Endotoxemia; LPS; p38 MAPK; Equine; Leukocytes; Inflammation
MeSH headings : Animals; Cells, Cultured; Chemokines / genetics; Chemokines / metabolism; Cytokines / genetics; Cytokines / metabolism; Gene Expression Regulation / physiology; Horses / blood; Horses / immunology; Horses / metabolism; Leukocytes / drug effects; Leukocytes / metabolism; Lipopolysaccharides / pharmacology; RNA, Messenger / metabolism; Signal Transduction / drug effects; Signal Transduction / physiology; p38 Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinases / metabolism
TL;DR: TNFalpha,IL-1beta, IL-6 and IL-8 are induced upon LPS stimulation of equine leukocytes and that this induction of gene expression is dependent on the p38 MAPK pathway, however, there are differences in the efficacy of the p 38 inhibitors tested here that may be explained by differences in specificity or potency. By: V. Cook n, L. Neuder n, A. Blikslager n & S. Jones n

Contributors: V. Cook n, L. Neuder n, A. Blikslager n & S. Jones n

author keywords: Neutrophils; Equine; Immune functions; Local anesthetics
MeSH headings : Anesthetics, Local / pharmacology; Animals; Cell Adhesion / drug effects; Cell Adhesion / immunology; Cell Movement / drug effects; Cell Movement / immunology; Horses / blood; Horses / immunology; Interleukin-8 / immunology; Leukotriene B4 / immunology; Lidocaine / pharmacology; Neutrophil Activation / drug effects; Neutrophil Activation / immunology; Neutrophils / drug effects; Neutrophils / immunology; Platelet Activating Factor / immunology
TL;DR: In conclusion, lidocaine did not inhibit neutrophil migration or adhesion in vitro at therapeutic concentrations, and increased migration and adhesion at higher concentrations. (via Semantic Scholar)

The role of p38 mitogen-activated kinase (MAPK) in the mechanism regulating cyclooxygenase gene expression in equine leukocytes

VETERINARY IMMUNOLOGY AND IMMUNOPATHOLOGY, 118(3-4), 294–303.

By: R. Eckert n, L. Neuder n, J. Bell n, J. Trujillo n & S. Jones n

author keywords: other animals; endotoxin shock; lipopolysaccharide; inflammation
MeSH headings : Animals; Cells, Cultured; Cyclooxygenase 2 / genetics; Cyclooxygenase 2 / metabolism; Enzyme Activation; Epoprostenol / metabolism; Gene Expression Regulation, Enzymologic; Horses / blood; Horses / genetics; Imidazoles / pharmacology; Leukocytes / metabolism; Prostaglandins / genetics; Prostaglandins / metabolism; Pyridines / pharmacology; RNA, Messenger / metabolism; Time Factors; p38 Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinases / metabolism
TL;DR: It is concluded that p 38 MAPK is essential for LPS-induced COX-2 expression suggesting that p38 MAPK are a potential target for anti-inflammatory therapy during equine endotoxemia. (via Semantic Scholar)
