How much time is safety worth? A comparison of trigger configurations on pneumatic nail guns in residential framing

PUBLIC HEALTH REPORTS, 123(4), 481–486.

By: H. Lipscomb*, J. Nolan, D. Patterson, D. Makrozahopoulos n, K. Kucera* & J. Dement*

MeSH headings : Accidents, Occupational / prevention & control; Adult; Efficiency; Equipment Design; Equipment Safety; Facility Design and Construction / instrumentation; Humans; Male
TL;DR: Failure to place tools with the safer trigger configuration, which requires the nose piece to be depressed before the trigger is pulled, in the hands of workers does not make sense given the frequency and potential repercussions of injuries associated with the use of these tools in wood framing. A biomechanical analysis of anterior load carriage

ERGONOMICS, 50(12), 2104–2117.

By: A. Anderson n, K. Meador n, L. McClure n, D. Makrozahopoulos n, D. Brooks n & G. Mirka n

author keywords: lumbar; electromyography; motion analysis; agriculture
MeSH headings : Adult; Biomechanical Phenomena; Female; Humans; Lifting; Lumbosacral Region / physiology; Male; Muscle, Skeletal / physiology; Posture / physiology; Task Performance and Analysis; United States; Weight-Bearing / physiology
TL;DR: The results showed a significant effect of both walking speed and load height on trunk posture and trunk muscle activity levels in both the barbell and bucket experiments, and provide insight into muscle activation patterns in dynamic setting biomechanics, and have implications in industrial settings that require workers to carry loads in front of their bodies.
