Evaluation of autoantibodies to desmoglein-2 in dogs with and without cardiac disease

Scientific Reports, 13(1).

By: A. Walker*, R. Li*, N. Nguyen*, C. Jauregui*, K. Meurs n, A. Gagnon*, J. Stern*

MeSH headings : Animals; Dogs; Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Dysplasia; Autoantibodies; Dog Diseases / metabolism; Heart Atria; Prospective Studies; Desmoglein 2 / immunology
TL;DR: This prospective study is the first to evaluate dogs of various breeds and cardiac disease state for anti-desmoglein-2 antibodies and found correlation with some measures of disease severity requires further study with larger populations. (via Semantic Scholar)

Comparative Assessment of Heart Rate Variability Obtained via Ambulatory ECG and Polar Heart Rate Monitors in Healthy Cats: A Pilot Study

FRONTIERS IN VETERINARY SCIENCE, 8.

By: E. Grigg*, Y. Ueda n, A. Walker*, L. Hart*, S. Simas* & J. Stern*

author keywords: cat; physiological stress measures; heart rate; heart rate variability; Holter monitor; Polar H10
TL;DR: This pilot study tested the feasibility of obtaining HRV data from unrestrained cats, using a commercially available cardiac monitoring system (Polar H10 with chest strap), compared with data from a traditional ambulatory electrocardiogram, and results do not support the use of Polar H10 heart rate monitors for studies of HRV in cats. By: C. Gunther-Harrington*, A. Sharpe*, K. Vernau*, Y. Ueda n, E. Montgomery*, J. Surmick*, N. Fernandez*, E. Ontiveros*, A. Walker n, J. Stern*

author keywords: Vertebral heart score; cardiac thoracic ratio; biomarker; reference interval; radiography; echocardiography
MeSH headings : Animals; Biomarkers; Cats; Echocardiography / veterinary; Female; Heart Murmurs / veterinary; Natriuretic Peptide, Brain; Peptide Fragments; Reference Values
TL;DR: This study establishes RIs for thoracic radiograph assessment, echocardiography and cardiac biomarkers in kittens, which fills a critical gap in the veterinary literature. (via Semantic Scholar)
