I am a dependable, passionate, and determined DVM/Ph.D. dual degree student studying neuroscience at NC State University College of Veterinary Medicine. One of my career goals is to improve animal and human welfare through translational research as a veterinarian. I study Alzheimer's Disease (AD) in the murine model. My project works as a bridge to fulfill the knowledge gap by defining the molecular mechanism of how protein kinase, known as TAK1, activation causes memory loss.

Aberrantly activated TAK1 links neuroinflammation and neuronal loss in Alzheimer?s disease mouse models

JOURNAL OF CELL SCIENCE, 136(6).

author keywords: Alzheimer?s disease; Cell death; Inflammation; TAK1
MeSH headings : Animals; Mice; Alzheimer Disease / genetics; Calcium; Cytokines / metabolism; Neuroinflammatory Diseases; Signal Transduction / physiology
TL;DR: It is reported that compound stimulation with the neurotoxic factors TNF and glutamate aberrantly activates neuronal TAK1 (also known as MAP3K7), which promotes the pathogenesis of AD in mouse models and provides a molecular mechanism linking cytokines, Ca2+ signaling and neuronal necroptosis in AD. A Pilot, Open-Label Study to Evaluate the Efficacy of Intra-Articular Administration of a Caninized TNF Receptor Fc Fusion Protein as a Treatment for Osteoarthritis-Associated Joint Pain

FRONTIERS IN VETERINARY SCIENCE, 9.

author keywords: osteoarthritis; joint pain; TNF-alpha; force plate; limb use asymmetry test
TL;DR: The IA injection of caTNFR-Fc fusion protein provided no benefit in terms of objective limb use and activity data in dogs with OA in this pilot study, and data indicate TNF-α may not be a good therapeutic target in canine OA. (via Semantic Scholar)
