Comparative Efficacy of a Fungal Entomopathogen with a Broad Host Range against Two Human-Associated Pests

INSECTS, 13(9).

By: A. Ashbrook n, A. Mikaelyan n & C. Schal n

author keywords: bed bugs; German cockroaches; Beauveria bassiana; entomopathogens; bioassays
TL;DR: Different techniques to expose bed bugs and German cockroaches to Beauveria bassiana, a fungal pathogen that only infects insects, to test their susceptibility to infection reveal that they were highly susceptible to fungal infections, no matter how they were exposed to the pathogen. Characterization of heat exposure-associated escape behaviors and HSP gene expression in bed bugs (Cimex lectularius L.)

Ashbrook, A. R., Feder, J. L., Scharf, M. E., Bennett, G. W., & Gondhalekar, A. D. (2021, September 30). PEST MANAGEMENT SCIENCE.

By: A. Ashbrook*, J. Feder*, M. Scharf*, G. Bennett* & A. Gondhalekar*

author keywords: heat treatments; thermal biology; thermal pest control; behavior; gene expression
MeSH headings : Animals; Bedbugs / genetics; Ectoparasitic Infestations; Gene Expression; Heat-Shock Proteins / genetics; Hot Temperature
TL;DR: This study shows that when harborage top temperatures approach 40.0-43.0°C, bed bugs will disperse in search for cooler areas, and implicates the HSP70.1, HSP 70.3, and Putative Small HSP genes in heat induced stress recovery of bed bugs. (via Semantic Scholar)
