Validating land change models based on configuration disagreement

COMPUTERS ENVIRONMENT AND URBAN SYSTEMS, 77.

By: B. Pickard* & R. Meentemeyer n

author keywords: Model validation; Accuracy assessment; FUTURES; Landscape heterogeneity; Simulation
TL;DR: A new metric is developed, termed configuration disagreement, designed to focus on the size, shape, and complexity of land change simulations, and reveals why it may be more helpful to validate simulations in terms of configuration accuracy, if a study requires accurately modeling the spatial patterns and arrangements of land cover.
