Community Colleges, Financial Aid, Critical Race Theory
Devon L. Graves, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor of Community College Leadership at North Carolina State University. He serves as a Faculty Scholar at the NC State Belk Center for Community College Leadership and Research. He studies the racialized experiences of community college Students of Color navigating the financial aid process. The bulk of his research has focused on uncovering the inequities that Students of Color face when completing the financial aid income verification process (e.g. Graves, 2023; Rios-Aguilar et al., 2018). Prior to his faculty roles, he served as a Research Fellow at the Foundation for California Community Colleges where he conducted data analyses for diversity and financial aid reform initiatives. He has served as a member of the Board of Regents for the University of California and a governor-appointed Commissioner for the California Student Aid Commission. Dr. Graves has presented his research findings at national academic and practitioner conferences such as the Association for the Student of Higher Education and the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators.
