JOURNAL OF TOXICOLOGY AND ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH-PART A-CURRENT ISSUES, 81(18), 913–923.

By: V. Bornemann*, S. Werness, L. Buslinger n & S. Schiffman n

MeSH headings : Adipose Tissue / metabolism; Animals; Chromatography, High Pressure Liquid; Feces / chemistry; Female; Intestinal Mucosa / metabolism; Male; Rats; Rats, Sprague-Dawley; Sucrose / analogs & derivatives; Sucrose / metabolism; Sucrose / urine; Sweetening Agents / metabolism; Tandem Mass Spectrometry; Time Factors
TL;DR: New findings of metabolism of sucralose in the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) and its accumulation in adipose tissue were not part of the original regulatory decision process for this agent and indicate that it now may be time to revisit the safety and regulatory status of this organochlorine artificial sweetener.
