Transplantation of GABAergic Interneurons into the Neonatal Primary Visual Cortex Reduces Absence Seizures in Stargazer Mice

CEREBRAL CORTEX, 25(9), 2970–2979.

author keywords: absence seizure; MGE transplantation; network activity; Stargazer; visual cortex
MeSH headings : Animals; Calcium Channels / genetics; Calcium Channels / metabolism; Disease Models, Animal; Embryo, Mammalian; Epilepsy, Absence / genetics; Epilepsy, Absence / surgery; GABAergic Neurons / physiology; GABAergic Neurons / transplantation; Glutamate Decarboxylase / metabolism; Green Fluorescent Proteins / genetics; Green Fluorescent Proteins / metabolism; In Vitro Techniques; Median Eminence / cytology; Membrane Potentials / drug effects; Membrane Potentials / physiology; Mice; Mice, Inbred C57BL; Mice, Transgenic; Neocortex / cytology; Nerve Tissue Proteins / metabolism; Proto-Oncogene Proteins c-fos / metabolism; Treatment Outcome; Visual Cortex / transplantation; gamma-Aminobutyric Acid / metabolism
TL;DR: It is reported that transplantation of MGE cells into the primary visual cortex (V1) of Stg mice significantly reduces AE episodes and lowers mortality and presents MGE grafting in the V1 as a possible clinical approach in the treatment of AE. (via Semantic Scholar)
