Verf. analysiert die Art und Weise, wie Julius Africanus ältere jüdische Quellen und Traditionen benutzt hat, und berücksichtigt dabei die verschiedenen Bereiche des benutzten Quellenmaterials: mündliche Überlieferung palästinischer Provenienz, biblische Exegese, Historiographie, apokryphe Literatur (besonders das Jubiläenbuch und das äthiopische Henochbuch), Apologetik und apokalyptische Endzeitspekulation.
