2013 journal article

Characterization and allelic variation of the transporters associated with antigen processing (TAP) genes in the domestic dog (Canis lupus familiaris)

Developmental & Comparative Immunology, 41(4), 578–586.

By: G. Gojanovich n, P. Ross n, S. Holmer n, J. Holmes n & P. Hess n

author keywords: Alleles; Canine; Immunology; Splice variants; Transporter associated with antigen processing
MeSH headings : ATP-Binding Cassette Transporters / genetics; Alleles; Amino Acid Sequence; Animals; Antigen Presentation / genetics; Cell Line; Dogs; Genetic Variation; Histocompatibility Antigens Class I / genetics; Humans; Mice; Molecular Sequence Data; Phylogeny; Promoter Regions, Genetic; Protein Isoforms; Wolves / genetics
TL;DR: The promoter and coding regions of the canine TAP1 and TAP2 genes, which encode the homologous subunits forming the TAP heterodimer, are reported, which should prove useful in investigating the association of specific TAP defects or alleles with immunity to intracellular pathogens and cancer in dogs. Feline Glycoprotein A Repetitions Predominant Anchors Transforming Growth Factor Beta on the Surface of Activated CD4(+)CD25(+) Regulatory T Cells and Mediates AIDS Lentivirus-Induced T Cell Immunodeficiency

AIDS RESEARCH AND HUMAN RETROVIRUSES, 29(4), 641–651.

By: M. Miller n, J. Fogle n, P. Ross n & M. Tompkins n

MeSH headings : Amino Acid Sequence; Animals; Cats; Feline Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome / etiology; Feline Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome / immunology; Glycoproteins / genetics; Glycoproteins / immunology; Glycoproteins / metabolism; Humans; Immune Tolerance; Immunodeficiency Virus, Feline / immunology; Immunodeficiency Virus, Feline / pathogenicity; Membrane Proteins / genetics; Membrane Proteins / immunology; Membrane Proteins / metabolism; Models, Molecular; Molecular Sequence Data; Multiprotein Complexes / metabolism; Protein Conformation; RNA, Messenger / genetics; RNA, Messenger / metabolism; Sequence Homology, Amino Acid; Species Specificity; T-Lymphocytes, Regulatory / immunology; Transforming Growth Factor beta / metabolism
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the GARP(+) Treg cells from FIV-infected cats suppress T helper cells in vivo and that blocking GARP or TGFb eliminates this suppression. (via Semantic Scholar)

2013 journal article

Polymorphisms and tissue expression of the feline leukocyte antigen class I loci FLAI-E, FLAI-H, and FLAI-K

Immunogenetics, 65(9), 675–689.

By: J. Holmes n, S. Holmer n, P. Ross n, A. Buntzman*, J. Frelinger* & P. Hess n

author keywords: Cat; Major histocompatibility complex; Polymorphism; Classical class I genes
MeSH headings : Amino Acid Sequence; Animals; CD8-Positive T-Lymphocytes / immunology; Cats / genetics; Cats / immunology; Cloning, Molecular; Complementarity Determining Regions / genetics; Genotype; Histocompatibility Antigens Class I / chemistry; Histocompatibility Antigens Class I / genetics; Models, Animal; Molecular Sequence Data; Polymorphism, Single Nucleotide; Sequence Alignment; Viruses / immunology
TL;DR: Alleles could be assigned to a specific locus with reasonable confidence, although there was evidence of potentially confounding interlocus recombination between FLAI-E andFLAI-K, and hypervariable regions across these genes permitted the assignment of names to both novel and established alleles. A cell-based MHC stabilization assay for the detection of peptide binding to the canine classical class I molecule, DLA-88

VETERINARY IMMUNOLOGY AND IMMUNOPATHOLOGY, 150(3-4), 206–212.

By: P. Ross n, J. Holmes n, G. Gojanovich n & P. Hess n

author keywords: Canine; CD8(+) T lymphocytes; MHC; Peptides/epitopes
MeSH headings : Animals; Biological Assay / methods; Biological Assay / veterinary; CD8-Positive T-Lymphocytes / metabolism; Cell Line, Tumor; Cell Membrane; Dogs / metabolism; Epitopes; Gene Expression Regulation / physiology; Histocompatibility Antigens Class I / chemistry; Histocompatibility Antigens Class I / metabolism; Mice; Protein Binding; Protein Subunits
TL;DR: The potential to use RMA-S cells transfected with canine alleles as a tool for CTL epitope discovery in this species is demonstrated, and the high false positive rate with this analysis ideally requires binding confirmation. (via Semantic Scholar)
