The NLRP3 Inflammasome Is Dispensable in Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus Urinary Tract Infection

Paudel, S., Kumar, R., Rogers, K. A., Saini, Y., Patial, S., & Kulkarni, R. (2024, January 25). Pathogens, Vol. 13.

author keywords: MRSA; UTI; NLRP3; inflammasome
MeSH headings : Animals; NLR Family, Pyrin Domain-Containing 3 Protein / metabolism; NLR Family, Pyrin Domain-Containing 3 Protein / genetics; Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus; Urinary Tract Infections / microbiology; Urinary Tract Infections / immunology; Urinary Tract Infections / pathology; Staphylococcal Infections / immunology; Staphylococcal Infections / microbiology; Staphylococcal Infections / pathology; Staphylococcal Infections / metabolism; Inflammasomes / metabolism; Inflammasomes / immunology; Mice; Mice, Knockout; Cytokines / metabolism; Mice, Inbred C57BL; Female; Disease Models, Animal
topics (OpenAlex): Inflammasome and immune disorders; Streptococcal Infections and Treatments; Kawasaki Disease and Coronary Complications
TL;DR: It is suggested that MRSA-induced urinary NLRP3 activity does not play a role in the pathophysiology of the ascending UTI, and histopathological analysis of MRSA-infected bladder and kidney sections from Nlrp3−/− and WT mice showed similar inflammation. (via Semantic Scholar)
