In situ ultrasound imaging of shear shock waves in the porcine brain

JOURNAL OF BIOMECHANICS, 134.

By: S. Chandrasekaran n, F. Santibanez n, B. Tripathi*, R. DeRuiter n, R. Bruegge n & G. Pinton n

author keywords: Ultrasound imaging; RF tracking; Motion tracking; Shear waves; Shock waves
MeSH headings : Animals; Brain / diagnostic imaging; Brain Injuries, Traumatic; Elasticity Imaging Techniques / methods; Head; Motion; Phantoms, Imaging; Swine; Ultrasonography / methods
TL;DR: The experimental velocity, acceleration, and strain-rate waveforms in brain for the monochromatic impact are shown to be in excellent agreement with theoretical predictions from a custom higher-order finite volume method hence demonstrating the capabilities to measure rapid brain motion despite strong acoustical reverberations from the porcine skull. An Analysis of Sonothrombolysis and Cavitation for Retracted and Unretracted Clots Using Microbubbles Versus Low-Boiling-Point Nanodroplets

IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control, 69(2), 711–719.

By: J. Kim*, K. Bautista*, R. Deruiter*, L. Goel*, X. Jiang n, Z. Xu*, P. Dayton*

author keywords: Ultrasonic imaging; Acoustics; Medical treatment; Frequency control; Coagulation; Transducers; Surface treatment; Cavitation; microbubble (MB); nanodroplet (ND); retracted clot; sonothrombolysis; thrombosis
MeSH headings : Aged; Blood Coagulation; Humans; Microbubbles; Thrombosis / diagnostic imaging; Thrombosis / therapy; Ultrasonic Therapy / methods
TL;DR: It is concluded that ND-mediated sonothrombolysis outperforms MB-mediated therapy regardless of clot retraction, and this advantage of ND- mediated cavitation is emphasized for retracted clots. (via Semantic Scholar)

Quantitative sub-resolution blood velocity estimation using ultrasound localization microscopy ex-vivo and in-vivo

BIOMEDICAL PHYSICS & ENGINEERING EXPRESS, 6(3).

author keywords: ultrasound imaging; super-resolution; blood flow
MeSH headings : Algorithms; Animals; Blood Flow Velocity; Blood Vessels / diagnostic imaging; Calibration; Contrast Media; Equipment Design; Humans; Image Processing, Computer-Assisted; In Vitro Techniques; Mice; Microbubbles; Microscopy / methods; Microvessels / diagnostic imaging; Phantoms, Imaging; Reproducibility of Results; Signal Processing, Computer-Assisted; Transducers; Ultrasonography / instrumentation; Ultrasonography / methods
TL;DR: It is shown that the parabolic flow profiles within these micro-vessels are resolvable and velocity measurements are in excellent agreement with theoretical predictions within the considered range of flow rates. (via Semantic Scholar)

Transient acoustic vaporization signatures unique to low boiling point phase change contrast agents enable super-resolution ultrasound imaging without spatiotemporal filtering

AIP ADVANCES, 10(10).

By: R. DeRuiter n, E. Markley n, J. Rojas n, G. Pinton n & P. Dayton n

TL;DR: The proposed PCCA SR technique does not require the use of user-dependent and flow-dependent spatio-temporal filtering via singular-value decomposition, rather, matched filters selected by Fourier-domain analysis are able to identify and localize PCCAs activations. (via Semantic Scholar)
