Metallophobic Coatings to Enable Shape Reconfigurable Liquid Metal Inside 3D Printed Plastics

ACS APPLIED MATERIALS & INTERFACES, 13(11), 12709–12718.

By: J. Ma n, V. Bharambe n, K. Persson n, A. Bachmann n, I. Joshipura n, J. Kim*, K. Oh*, J. Patrick n, J. Adams n, M. Dickey n

author keywords: liquid metal; additive manufacturing; reconfigurable circuit; metallophobic surface; liquid metal actuation; 4D printing
TL;DR: It is shown that silica particles suspended in an appropriate solvent can be injected inside cavities to coat the walls, and this technique creates a transparent, nanoscopically rough coating that prevents adhesion of liquid metals on various 3D printed plastics and commercial polymers.
