Mammal-bearing gastric pellets potentially attributable to Troodon formosus at the Cretaceous Egg Mountain locality, Two Medicine Formation, Montana, USA

Freimuth, W. J., Varricchio, D. J., Brannick, A. L., Weaver, L. N., & Mantilla, G. P. W. (2021, July 28). PALAEONTOLOGY.

By: W. Freimuth n, D. Varricchio*, A. Brannick*, L. Weaver* & G. Mantilla

author keywords: gastric pellet; taphonomy; palaeoecology; theropod; metatherian; multituberculate
topics (OpenAlex): Evolution and Paleontology Studies; Paleontology and Evolutionary Biology; Ichthyology and Marine Biology
TL;DR: Abundant shed teeth and nesting evidence at the locality favours the non‐avian theropod Troodon formosus as the predator responsible for the regurgitalites, congruent with previous inferences of a small‐bodied prey diet, manipulation of prey during feeding, heightened metabolic processes, and potential nocturnality for this taxon. topics (OpenAlex): Paleontology and Evolutionary Biology; Evolution and Paleontology Studies; Ichthyology and Marine Biology
TL;DR: The osteology, morphology, and ecology of the small theropod “Stenonychosaurus inequalis” are described in two papers, speculating on its life habits, brain power, vision, movement, and feeding habits. (via Semantic Scholar)
