1995 journal article

Male-specific lethal 2, a dosage compensation gene of Drosophila, undergoes sex-specific regulation and encodes a protein with a RING finger and a metallothionein-like cysteine cluster.

The EMBO Journal, 14(12), 2884–2895.

By: S. Zhou*, Y. Yang*, M. Scott*, A. Pannuti*, K. Fehr*, A. Eisen*, E. Koonin*, D. Fouts* ...

TL;DR: The observations suggest that MSL‐2 may be the target of the master regulatory gene Sxl and provide the basic elements of a working hypothesis on the function of MSl‐2 in mediating the 2‐fold increase in transcription that is characteristic of dosage compensation. (via Semantic Scholar)

A second superoxide dismutase gene in the medfly, Ceratitis capitata.

Genetics, 140(2), 697–702.

By: G. Banks, A. Robinson, J. Kwiatowski, F. Ayala, M. Scott* & D. Kriticou

TL;DR: Phylogenetic analysis by the maximum parsimony method with bootstrap resampling of previously known Cu/Zn SOD reveals two monophyletic groups, vertebrates and insects, which suggests that the duplication detected in Ceratitis is ancient, perhaps as old as the origins of the arthropod phylum in the Cambrian more than 500 million years ago. TL;DR: Protoplast studies show that PD(-) RNA inoculum does not undergo further deletion in infected protoplasts, suggesting thatPD(-) CP deletion derivatives preferentially accumulate in plants because they have a greater capacity for cell-to-cell movement. (via Semantic Scholar)
