2009 journal article

Terameprocol, a methylated derivative of nordihydroguaiaretic acid, inhibits production of prostaglandins and several key inflammatory cytokines and chemokines

JOURNAL OF INFLAMMATION-LONDON, 6.

By: D. Eads n, R. Hansen n, A. Oyegunwa n, C. Cecil n, C. Culver n, F. Scholle n, I. Petty n, S. Laster n

TL;DR: TMP inhibited the LPS-induced production of lipid mediators and several key inflammatory cytokines and chemokines, both in vitro and in vivo, raising the possibility that TMP might be useful as a treatment for a variety of inflammatory disorders. (via Semantic Scholar)

Modified vaccinia virus Ankara can activate NF-kappa B transcription factors through a double-stranded RNA-activated protein kinase (PKR)-dependent pathway during the early phase of virus replication

VIROLOGY, 391(2), 177–186.

By: H. Lynch*, C. Ray*, K. Oie*, J. Pollara n, I. Petty n, A. Sadler*, B. Williams*, D. Pickup*

author keywords: Vaccinia; MVA; NF-kappaB; I-kappaB; K1L; CP77; Cowpox; PKR; Orthopoxvirus; Vaccine
MeSH headings : Animals; Cell Line; Cricetinae; Humans; I-kappa B Proteins / antagonists & inhibitors; Mice; NF-KappaB Inhibitor alpha; NF-kappa B / biosynthesis; Vaccinia virus / immunology; Vaccinia virus / physiology; Virus Replication; eIF-2 Kinase / immunology
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that events during the early phase of MVA replication can induce PKR-mediated processes contributing both to the activation of NF-kappaB signaling, and to processes that may restrict viral replication. (via Semantic Scholar)

Visualization and analysis of microstructure in three-dimensional discrete numerical models

Journal of Computing in Civil Engineering, 23(5), 277–287.

TL;DR: It is possible to compare quantitatively numerical microstructure directly to its physical analog, which should lead to greatly improved calibrations of granular mechanics models, and could facilitate the calibration of models across all scales of interest rather than solely at specimen boundaries.
