Differentially expressed microRNAs and affected biological pathways revealed by modulated modularity clustering (MMC) analysis of human preeclamptic and IUGR placentas

PLACENTA, 34(7), 599–605.

author keywords: Placenta; Preeclampsia; IUGR; MiR-194; MiR-149
MeSH headings : Down-Regulation; Female; Fetal Growth Retardation / genetics; Fetal Growth Retardation / metabolism; Humans; MicroRNAs / biosynthesis; Placenta / metabolism; Pre-Eclampsia / genetics; Pre-Eclampsia / metabolism; Pregnancy; Transcriptome
TL;DR: Modulated modularity clustering (MMC) allowed the elucidation of a molecular signature associated with preeclampsia and a subset of IUGR samples, which allowed the identification of genes, pathways, and microRNAs affected in these diseases. (via Semantic Scholar)

Sexuality Generates Diversity in the Aflatoxin Gene Cluster: Evidence on a Global Scale

PLOS PATHOGENS, 9(8).

By: G. Moore*, J. Elliott n, R. Singh n, B. Horn*, J. Dorner*, E. Stone n, S. Chulze*, G. Barros* ...

MeSH headings : Aflatoxins / biosynthesis; Aflatoxins / genetics; Aspergillus flavus / genetics; Aspergillus flavus / metabolism; Fungal Proteins / genetics; Fungal Proteins / metabolism; Genes, Fungal / physiology; Multigene Family / physiology; Repressor Proteins / genetics; Repressor Proteins / metabolism; Species Specificity
TL;DR: It is shown that the reproductive nature of the population (more sexual versus more asexual) is predictive of aflatoxin chemotype diversity in these agriculturally important fungi. (via Semantic Scholar)

Development of a New Positron Emission Tomography Tracer for Targeting Tumor Angiogenesis: Synthesis, Small Animal Imaging, and Radiation Dosimetry

MOLECULES, 18(5), 5594–5610.

By: C. Patterson*, C. Frederick n, H. Yuan*, L. Dyer*, P. Lockyer*, D. Lalush n, A. Veleva n

author keywords: development of new 64Cu radiolabeled peptide; radiopharmaceuticals; targeted radioconjugates; positron emission tomography (PET) imaging; tumor angiogenesis; tumor aggressiveness; responses to therapy
MeSH headings : Animals; Carcinoma, Lewis Lung / diagnostic imaging; Carcinoma, Lewis Lung / metabolism; Copper / chemistry; Female; Isotopes / chemistry; Mice; Neovascularization, Pathologic / diagnostic imaging; Neovascularization, Pathologic / metabolism; Peptides / chemical synthesis; Peptides / chemistry; Peptides / pharmacology; Positron-Emission Tomography; Radiography; Radiopharmaceuticals / chemical synthesis; Radiopharmaceuticals / chemistry; Radiopharmaceuticals / pharmacology
TL;DR: The results from this study show that, in the context of the s.c. LLC immunocompetent mouse model, the QFP-tracer can target tumor blood vessels selectively, however, further optimization of the biodistribution and dosimetry profile of the tracer is necessary to ensure efficient radiopharmaceutical applications enabled by the biological specificity of the Q FP-peptide. An eigenvector interlacing property of graphs that arise from trees by Schur complementation of the Laplacian

LINEAR ALGEBRA AND ITS APPLICATIONS, 438(3), 1078–1094.

By: A. Griffing n, B. Lynch n & E. Stone n

author keywords: Trees; Schur complement; Eigenvectors; Harmonic functions; Partially-supplied graph; Nodal domains; Interlacing
TL;DR: This paper specialize to where G is a tree with points of articulation r ∈ R and considers the partially-supplied graph G* derived from G by taking the Schur complement with respect to R in L. (via Semantic Scholar)
