Tracking the evolutionary history of the potato late blight pathogen with historical collections

Outlooks on Pest Management, 17(5), 228–231.

By: J. Ristaino*

Contributors: J. Ristaino*

TL;DR: Research by early mycologists who studied the late blightpathogen was some of the first to document that fungi were capable of causing plant disease and laid the groundwork for the disciplines of microbiology and plant pathology. (via Semantic Scholar)

Mitochondrial genome sequences and molecular evolution of the Irish potato famine pathogen, Phytophthora infestans

CURRENT GENETICS, 49(1), 39–46.

By: C. Avila-Adame n, L. Gomez-Alpizar n, V. Zismann, K. Jones, C. Buell & J. Ristaino n

Contributors: C. Avila-Adame n, L. Gómez-Alpizar n, V. Zismann, K. Jones, C. Buell & J. Ristaino n

author keywords: Phytophthora infestans; late blight; mitochondria; potato
MeSH headings : Evolution, Molecular; Genes, Mitochondrial; Genome; Haplotypes; Open Reading Frames; Phytophthora / genetics; Polymorphism, Genetic; Solanum tuberosum / parasitology
TL;DR: The mitochondrial genomes of haplotypes of the Irish potato famine pathogen, Phytophthora infestans, were sequenced and showed that although the type I and II haplotypes shared a common ancestor, they clearly formed two independent lineages that evolved independently. (via Semantic Scholar)
