Molecular Ecology Resources, 11(6), 1002–1011.

Contributors: G. Robideau*, A. De Cock*, M. Coffey*, H. Voglmayr*, H. Brouwer*, K. Bala*, D. Chitty*, N. Désaulniers* ...

author keywords: cytochrome c oxidase subunit I; DNA barcoding; internal transcribed spacer; oomycete; species identification
MeSH headings : Base Sequence; Cluster Analysis; DNA Barcoding, Taxonomic / methods; DNA Primers / genetics; DNA, Ribosomal Spacer / genetics; Electron Transport Complex IV / genetics; Models, Genetic; Molecular Sequence Data; Oomycetes / genetics; Sequence Analysis, DNA
TL;DR: The results described in this paper indicate that COI sequencing and the dataset generated are a valuable addition to the currently available oomycete taxonomy resources, and that both COI, the default DNA barcode supported by GenBank, and ITS, the de facto barcode accepted by the oomyCete and mycology community, are acceptable and complementary DNA barcodes to be used for identification of oomy cetes. Detection and Quantification of Peronospora tabacina Using a Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction Assay

PLANT DISEASE, 95(6), 673–682.

By: M. Blanco-Meneses n & J. Ristaino n

Contributors: M. Blanco-Meneses n & J. Ristaino n

TL;DR: A real-time PCR assay for P. tabacina that uses 5' fluorogenic exonuclease (TaqMan) chemistry to detect and quantify pathogen DNA from diseased tissue will be a valuable tool for the detection of the pathogen and of use to regulatory agencies interested in preventing the spread of blue mold.
