Decline in riparian Tsuga canadensis forests of the central Appalachians across an Adelges tsugae invasion chronosequence

The Journal of the Torrey Botanical Society, 139(4), 367–378.

By: K. Martin & P. Goebel

author keywords: Adelges tsugae; Central Appalachians; Eastern Hemlock; Foundation Species; Hemlock Woolly Adelgid; Invasive Species; Structural Equation Modeling; Tsuga canadensis
TL;DR: Although in severe decline, T. canadensis continued to dominate both the overstory and sapling layers across riparian-upland transects across the central Appalachians, and structural equation modeling indicated decline was moderated by higher elevations and landscape positions that received less incident radiation due to aspect and slope, but duration of Adelges tsugae invasion was the most influential factor in the decline of crown health for theOverstory. Analysis of the production and transaction costs of forest carbon offset projects in the USA

Journal of Environmental Management, 112, 128–136.

By: C. Galik*, D. Cooley* & J. Baker*

author keywords: Transaction costs; Forestry; Carbon credits; Sequestration; United States
MeSH headings : Carbon; Trees; United States
TL;DR: Examination of implementation costs of different forest offset project types operating in different forest types under different accounting and sampling methodologies suggests that accounting could be a large driver in the financial viability of forest offset projects, with transaction costs likely being of largest concern to those projects at the margin.
