Space-Time Geostatistical Assessment of Hypoxia in the Northern Gulf of Mexico

ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY, 52(21), 12484–12493.

MeSH headings : Gulf of Mexico; Humans; Hypoxia; Oxygen; Seasons; Water
TL;DR: An innovative space-time geostatistical model and data collected by multiple research organizations are used to estimate bottom-water dissolved oxygen concentrations and hypoxic area across summers from 1985 to 2016, finding that 27% of variability in BWDO is explained by deterministic trends with location, depth, and date, while correlated stochasticity accounts for 62% of observational variance.
