Multiple factors dictate target selection by Hfq-binding small RNAs

The EMBO Journal, 31(8), 1961–1974.

By: C. Beisel*, T. Updegrove*, B. Janson* & G. Storz*

author keywords: base-pairing; Escherichia coli; Spot 42; target prediction
MeSH headings : Base Pairing; Binding Sites; Escherichia coli / physiology; Escherichia coli Proteins / metabolism; Gene Expression Regulation, Bacterial; Host Factor 1 Protein / metabolism; MicroRNAs / metabolism; Nucleic Acid Conformation; Protein Binding; Sequence Analysis
TL;DR: Using the Hfq‐binding sRNA Spot 42 of Escherichia coli as a model, it is found that predictions using only the three unstructured regions of Spot 42 substantially improved the identification of previously known and novel Spot 42 targets. (via Semantic Scholar)
