Robust two-stage approach to repeated measurements analysis of chronic ozone exposure in rats

JOURNAL OF AGRICULTURAL BIOLOGICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL STATISTICS, 8(4), 438–454.

By: B. Yeap*, P. Catalano*, L. Ryan* & M. Davidian n

author keywords: ANOVA; hierarchical nonlinear model; M-estimation; Michaelis-Menten; mixed effects; outlier
TL;DR: A robust two-stage approach is used to reanalyze the repeated measurements from an experiment of airway responsiveness in rats randomized to long-term exposure at four ozone doses, finding the true effect of chronic ozone exposure may be masked by a few rats which exert undue influence on the population estimates in a nonrobust analysis. Semiparametric estimation of treatment effect in a pretest-posttest study

BIOMETRICS, 59(4), 1046–1055.

By: S. Leon n, A. Tsiatis n & M. Davidian*

author keywords: analysis of covariance; counterfactuals; influence function; inverse probability weighting; semiparametric model; t-test
MeSH headings : Antiviral Agents / therapeutic use; Biometry / methods; CD4 Lymphocyte Count; Clinical Trials as Topic; Computer Simulation; HIV Infections / drug therapy; Humans; Models, Statistical; Randomized Controlled Trials as Topic; Statistics, Nonparametric
TL;DR: This work exploits recent developments in the literature on missing data and causal inference to derive the class of all consistent treatment effect estimators, identify the most efficient such estimator, and outline strategies for implementation of estimators that may improve on popular methods.
