OCULAR INFLAMMATORY EFFECTS OF INTRAVITREALLY INJECTED TUMOR NECROSIS FACTOR-ALPHA AND ENDOTOXIN

INFLAMMATION, 14(3), 325–335.

By: L. Fleisher n, J. Ferrell n & M. Mcgahan n

TL;DR: Intravitreal injection of human recombinant tumor necrosis factor-alpha induced inflammation in the rabbit eye characterized by dilation of blood vessels in the iris, disruption of the blood-ocular barriers, infiltration of inflammatory cells into the anterior chamber, and accumulation of prostaglandin E in intraocular fluids differed from that reported for intravitreally injected endotoxin in terms of time course and the types ofinflammatory cells in the aqueous humor. COPPER AND ASPIRIN TREATMENT INCREASE THE ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITY OF PLASMA

AGENTS AND ACTIONS, 31(1-2), 59–64.

By: M. Mcgahan n

MeSH headings : Animals; Anti-Inflammatory Agents, Non-Steroidal; Aqueous Humor / enzymology; Aqueous Humor / metabolism; Aspirin / pharmacology; Ceruloplasmin / metabolism; Copper / pharmacology; Endotoxins / toxicity; Eye Diseases / blood; Eye Diseases / chemically induced; Inflammation / blood; Inflammation / chemically induced; Lipid Peroxidation / drug effects; Molecular Weight; Oxidation-Reduction; Rabbits; Superoxide Dismutase / metabolism; Transferrin / metabolism
TL;DR: A large increase in plasma antioxidant activity may have a protective effect in other models of inflammation and provide a mechanism for the proven increase in anti-inflammatory efficacy of Cu-chelates of many compounds. (via Semantic Scholar)

INTERSPECIES AND INTERREGIONAL ANALYSIS OF THE COMPARATIVE HISTOLOGIC THICKNESS AND LASER DOPPLER BLOOD-FLOW MEASUREMENTS AT 5 CUTANEOUS SITES IN 9 SPECIES

JOURNAL OF INVESTIGATIVE DERMATOLOGY, 95(5), 582–586.

MeSH headings : Animals; Blood Flow Velocity / physiology; Cats; Cattle; Dogs; Horses; Macaca mulatta; Mice; Mice, Inbred Strains; Rabbits; Rats; Rats, Inbred Strains; Skin / cytology; Skin / diagnostic imaging; Skin Physiological Phenomena; Species Specificity; Swine; Ultrasonics; Ultrasonography
TL;DR: The data indicate that thickness and LDV blood flow are independent and must be evaluated separately when comparisons are made between species and body sites, and provides a data base for future comparative studies in which a knowledge of skin thickness or blood flow might be important variables.
