1981 journal article

The lung strip: evaluation of a method to study contractility of pulmonary parenchyma.

Experimental Lung Research, 2, 187–194.

By: J. Evans* & K. Adler*

MeSH headings : Acetylcholine / pharmacology; Animals; Epinephrine / pharmacology; Histamine / pharmacology; In Vitro Techniques; Lung / cytology; Lung / physiology; Lung / ultrastructure; Male; Microscopy, Electron, Scanning; Muscle Contraction / drug effects; Rabbits
TL;DR: Isolated strips of rabbit lung were examined as an in vitro model for assessment of the direct effect of pharmacologic agents on the pulmonary parenchyma and revealed three possible sources of force generation within the strip: airway smoother muscle, vascular smooth muscle, and interstitial actin-containing cells.
