TL;DR: By reducing photorespiratory losses and increasing photosynthetic CO2 fixation rates, transgenic plants show dramatic increases in seed yield, and the bypass approach may have significant impact on increasing agricultural productivity for C3 crops. (via Semantic Scholar)
