Multifocal electroretinogram in rhodopsin P347L transgenic pigs

INVESTIGATIVE OPHTHALMOLOGY & VISUAL SCIENCE, 49(5), 2208–2215.

By: Y. Ng*, H. Chan*, P. Chu*, C. To*, B. Gilger*, R. Petters n, F. Wong*

MeSH headings : Aminobutyrates; Animals; Animals, Genetically Modified; Computers, Handheld; Disease Models, Animal; Electroretinography; Mutation; N-Methylaspartate / toxicity; Photoreceptor Cells, Vertebrate / physiology; Pipecolic Acids / toxicity; Retinal Bipolar Cells / physiology; Retinitis Pigmentosa / genetics; Retinitis Pigmentosa / physiopathology; Rhodopsin / genetics; Swine; Synapses / physiology; Synaptic Transmission / drug effects; Synaptic Transmission / physiology; Tetrodotoxin / toxicity; Vision, Ocular
TL;DR: In Tg retinas, ectopic synapses formed between cones and rod bipolar cells probably altered signal processing of the ON-bipolar cell pathway and signal processing in inner retinal neurons was also modified. (via Semantic Scholar)

Measuring and partitioning the high-order linkage disequilibrium by multiple order Markov chains

GENETIC EPIDEMIOLOGY, 32(4), 301–312.

author keywords: multilocus linkage disequilibrium; multiple order Markov chains; partition of multilocus LID
MeSH headings : Biometry; Databases, Genetic; Epidemiologic Methods; Gene Frequency; Haplotypes; Humans; Likelihood Functions; Linkage Disequilibrium; Markov Chains; Models, Genetic
TL;DR: Non‐homogeneous, multiple order Markov Chain models are employed as a statistical framework to measure and partition the LD among multiple markers into components due to different orders of marker associations and the results reveal that the most LD in the HapMap data is attributed to the LD between adjacent pairs of markers across the whole region. Dispersal, recruitment and migratory behaviour in a hawksbill sea turtle aggregation

MOLECULAR ECOLOGY, 17(3), 839–853.

By: X. Velez-Zuazo*, W. Ramos*, R. Dam, C. Diez, A. Abreu-Grobois* & W. Mcmillan n

author keywords: conservation genetics; Eretmochelys imbricata; mitochondrial DNA; mixed stock analysis; Mona Island; natal homing
MeSH headings : Age Factors; Animal Migration; Animals; Bayes Theorem; DNA, Mitochondrial / chemistry; DNA, Mitochondrial / genetics; Female; Genetic Variation; Haplotypes; Male; Polymerase Chain Reaction; Polymorphism, Genetic; Puerto Rico; Sequence Analysis, DNA; Sex Factors; Turtles / anatomy & histology; Turtles / genetics; Turtles / physiology
TL;DR: The difference in the apparent degree of natal homing behaviour among the different life-history stages of hawksbill turtles at Mona Island underscores the complexity of the species’ life‐history dynamics and highlights the need for both local and regional conservation efforts. ButterflyBase: a platform for lepidopteran genomics

NUCLEIC ACIDS RESEARCH, 36, D582–D587.

MeSH headings : Animals; Chromosome Mapping; Databases, Genetic; Expressed Sequence Tags; Genome, Insect; Genomics; Insect Proteins / chemistry; Insect Proteins / genetics; Internet; Lepidoptera / classification; Lepidoptera / genetics; Phylogeny; Proteomics; User-Computer Interface
TL;DR: The ButterflyBase database supports many needs of the lepidopteran research community, including molecular marker development, orthologue prediction for deep phylogenetics, and detection of rapidly evolving proteins likely involved in host–pathogen or other evolutionary processes. Independent origins of self-compatibility in Arabidopsis thaliana

MOLECULAR ECOLOGY, 17(2), 704–714.

author keywords: Arabidopsis thaliana; evolutionary genomics; molecular adaptation; reproductive strategies; self-incompatibility; S locus
MeSH headings : Amino Acid Sequence; Arabidopsis / classification; Arabidopsis / genetics; Arabidopsis Proteins / genetics; DNA, Plant / chemistry; DNA, Plant / genetics; Evolution, Molecular; Fertility / genetics; Genes, Plant; Genetics, Population; Genome, Plant; Genotype; Haplotypes; Molecular Sequence Data; Phylogeny; Pseudogenes; Sequence Analysis, DNA; Sequence Homology, Amino Acid
TL;DR: The results suggest that self‐compatibility, which appears to be fixed in this species, arose multiple times with different genetic bases, and indicates that a species‐specific trait is associated with parallel evolution at the molecular level. (via Semantic Scholar)
