Glucocorticoid receptor upregulation during seawater adaptation in a euryhaline teleost, the tilapia (Oreochromis mossambicus)

GENERAL AND COMPARATIVE ENDOCRINOLOGY, 132(1), 112–118.

By: D. Dean n, Z. Whitlow n & R. Borski n

author keywords: cortisol; osmoregulation; seawater adaptation; receptor affinity; receptor capacity; gill
MeSH headings : Acclimatization; Animals; Binding, Competitive; Cytoplasm / metabolism; Gills / metabolism; Hydrocortisone / blood; Osmolar Concentration; Radioligand Assay; Receptors, Glucocorticoid / metabolism; Seawater; Tilapia / blood; Tilapia / metabolism; Tilapia / physiology; Time Factors; Up-Regulation
TL;DR: It appears that an increase in cortisol receptors, which is closely associated with the rise in blood osmotic pressure that accompanies SW exposure, is an important component of cortisol's ability to promote SW adaptation in the tilapia. (via Semantic Scholar)

Contributors: G. Holbrook, J. Roebuck, C. Moore, M. Waldvogel* & C. Schal*

author keywords: fipronil; insecticide resistance; cross-resistance; cyclodienes; Blattella germanica
TL;DR: It appears that resistance to Þpronil in German cockroaches, whose ancestors had never been exposed to it, is attributable to enduring resistance to the cyclodienes, which were formerly used for cockroach control and have a similar mode of action as Þ pronil. (via Semantic Scholar)

By: H. Kim*, J. Ralph*, F. Lu*, S. Ralph*, A. Boudet*, J. MacKay*, R. Sederoff n, T. Ito* ...

MeSH headings : Alcohol Oxidoreductases / deficiency; Alcohol Oxidoreductases / genetics; Benzaldehydes / chemistry; Benzaldehydes / metabolism; Carbon Isotopes; Cinnamates / chemistry; Cinnamates / metabolism; Dimerization; Down-Regulation; Lignin / biosynthesis; Lignin / chemistry; Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, Biomolecular; Pinus / enzymology; Pinus / genetics; Pinus / metabolism; Plants, Genetically Modified / enzymology; Plants, Genetically Modified / genetics; Plants, Genetically Modified / metabolism; Tobacco / enzymology; Tobacco / genetics; Tobacco / metabolism
TL;DR: Spectral data from dimers, oligomers, and synthetic polymers have allowed a more substantive assignment of aldehyde components in lignins isolated from a CAD-deficient pine mutant and an antisense-CAD-downregulated transgenic tobacco, suggesting that the aldehydes behave like the traditional monolignols and should probably be regarded as authentic lignin monomers in normal and CAD- deficient plants.
