Alterations in protein kinase C isozymes α and β2 in activated Ha-<i>ras</i> containing papillomas in the absence of an increase in diacyiglycerol

Carcinogenesis, 13(7), 1113–1120.

By: K. Mills n, S. Bocckino, D. Burns, C. Loomis & R. Smart n

MeSH headings : 9,10-Dimethyl-1,2-benzanthracene / toxicity; Amino Acid Sequence; Animals; Codon / genetics; Diglycerides / metabolism; Female; Genes, ras; Immune Sera; Isoenzymes / analysis; Isoenzymes / metabolism; Mice; Mice, Inbred Strains; Molecular Sequence Data; Mutation; Papilloma / chemically induced; Papilloma / enzymology; Papilloma / genetics; Peptides / chemical synthesis; Peptides / immunology; Protein Kinase C / analysis; Protein Kinase C / metabolism; Skin / drug effects; Skin / enzymology; Skin Neoplasms / chemically induced; Skin Neoplasms / enzymology; Skin Neoplasms / genetics; Tetradecanoylphorbol Acetate / toxicity
TL;DR: An irreversible decrease in and alteration of the subcellular distribution of PKC-alpha and beta 2 in DMBA-initiated/TPA-promoted papillomas is demonstrated, and occur in the absence of an elevation in the total pool of endogenous DAG. (via Semantic Scholar)

Photoaffinity labelling of steroid-hormone-binding glutathione S-transferases with [3H]methyltrienolone. Inhibition of steroid-binding activity by the anticarcinogen indole-3-carbinol

Biochemical Journal, 288(2), 361–367.

By: D. Danger n, W. Baldwin n & G. LeBlanc n

MeSH headings : Affinity Labels; Animals; Butylated Hydroxyanisole / pharmacology; Cytosol / enzymology; Enzyme Induction; Glutathione Transferase / chemistry; Indoles / chemistry; Liver / enzymology; Male; Metribolone / chemistry; Mice; Phenobarbital / pharmacology; Photochemistry; Precipitin Tests; Protein Binding; Steroids / metabolism
TL;DR: The effects of the anticarcinogenic plant compound indole-3-carbinol (I3C) on GST-mediated steroid hormone-binding using the photoaffinity labelling techniques suggest that I3C may inhibit GST- mediated steroid-binding activity which could contribute to the anticARCinogenic activity of this compound. A maturase-encoding group MA intron of yeast mitochondria self-splices in vitro

Nucleic Acids Research, 20(7), 1747–1754.

By: S. Hebbar, S. Belcher* & P. Perlman*

Contributors: S. Hebbar, S. Belcher* & P. Perlman*

MeSH headings : Base Sequence; DNA, Mitochondrial / genetics; Introns / genetics; Mitochondria / enzymology; Molecular Sequence Data; RNA Splicing / genetics; RNA, Catalytic / metabolism; Yeasts / genetics
TL;DR: This is the first report of a maturase-encoding intron of either group I or group II that self-splices in vitro, and it requires much higher levels of Mg2+ and added salts for ready detection of splicing activity. (via Semantic Scholar)

The anti-carcinogenic plant compound indole-3-carbinol differentially modulates P450-mediated steroid hydroxylase activities in mice

Chemico-Biological Interactions, 83(2), 155–169.

author keywords: INDOLE-3-CARBINOL; P450; ANTICARCINOGENESIS; STEROID HYDROXYLASE
MeSH headings : Animals; Anticarcinogenic Agents / pharmacology; Aryl Hydrocarbon Hydroxylases; Cytochrome P-450 CYP1A1; Cytochrome P-450 Enzyme System / metabolism; Enzyme Induction / drug effects; Indoles / pharmacology; Liver / enzymology; Male; Mice; Mice, Inbred Strains; Oxidoreductases / metabolism; Steroid Hydroxylases / metabolism
TL;DR: It is shown that I3C can elicit both inductive and suppressive effects on the constitutive P450s that participate in carcinogen and steroid hormone metabolism, and may contribute to the anti-carcinogenic properties of this compound. (via Semantic Scholar)

Hormonal perturbations in patients with testicular cancer treated with cisplatin

Cancer, 69(9), 2306–2310.

By: G. Leblanc n, P. Kantoff*, S. Ng*, E. Frei* & D. Waxman*

TL;DR: Analysis of serum free testosterone, total testosterone, and androstenedione levels revealed that these hormones were not altered significantly in patients during a 38‐week period of cisplatin‐based treatment and follow‐up, and suggest that cisPlatin contributes to the perturbation of steroid and peptide hormone levels in patients with testicular cancer and perhaps in others undergoing cisplasin‐based chemotherapy.
