Design of Signal Timing Optimization Based on the Unsymmetrical Traffic Flow of Signalized Intersections

Traffic and Transportation Studies 2010.

By: Z. Zuo*, G. Yang* & C. Shao*

TL;DR: This paper analyzed the survey data of Wuyi Road-Southwest Road intersection, Dalian, calculated the current capacity and delays, then re-organized traffic flow according to the practical traffic demand and designed an unsymmetrical five-phase signal timing scheme based on the principle of overlap phase. Effects of ITS-based left turn policies on network performance

13th International IEEE Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems, 80–84.

Event: 2010 13th International IEEE Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems - (ITSC 2010)

TL;DR: Compared the effects of three ITS-based left turn policies on the performance of a congested transportation network, it was showed that prohibiting left turns in every other intersection along an arterial of the case study network increased the total number of vehicles processed by the network by 6.6% and resulted in a total of 2550 processed vehicles. Arterial traffic control using reinforcement learning agents and information from adjacent intersections in the state and reward structure

13th International IEEE Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems, 525–530.

Event: 2010 13th International IEEE Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems - (ITSC 2010)

TL;DR: An application that uses reinforcement learning (RL) agents for traffic control along an arterial under high traffic volumes is presented, and results showed lower delays and less number of stops with RL agents, as well as a more balanced distribution of the delay among all vehicles in the system.
