1997 journal article

Immersed interface methods for moving interface problems

*Numerical Algorithms*, *14*, 269–293.

author keywords: immersed interface method; Stefan problem; moving interface; discontinuous coefficients; singular source term; immersed boundary method; Cartesian grid; heat conduction

TL;DR:
The Crank-Nicolson difference scheme with modifications near the interface is used to solve for the solution u(x,t) and the interface α (t) simultaneously and second order accuracy on uniform grids is confirmed both for the solutions and the position of the interface.

Immersed Interface Methods for Stokes Flow with Elastic Boundaries or Surface Tension

*SIAM Journal on Scientific Computing*, *18*(3), 709–735.

author keywords: Stokes flow; creeping flow; interface tracking; discontinuous coefficients; immersed interface methods; Cartesian grids; bubbles

TL;DR:
A second-order accurate interface tracking method for the solution of incompressible Stokes flow problems with moving interfaces on a uniform Cartesian grid is presented and an implicit quasi-Newton method is developed that allows reasonable time steps to be used.
