EPR Properties of Synthetic Apatites, Deorganified Dentine, and Enamel

Calcified Tissue International, 62(5), 443–446.

By: G. Kenner*, E. Haskell*, R. Hayes*, A. Baig* & W. Higuchi*

author keywords: apatite; enamel; dentine; dosimetry; EPR
MeSH headings : Apatites / chemistry; Apatites / radiation effects; Cobalt Radioisotopes; Dental Enamel / chemistry; Dental Enamel / radiation effects; Dentin / chemistry; Dentin / radiation effects; Durapatite / chemistry; Electron Spin Resonance Spectroscopy / methods; Humans; Spectroscopy, Fourier Transform Infrared; X-Ray Diffraction
TL;DR: Electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy was used to study synthetic hydroxyapatite and ∼1, 2, and 6% synthetic carbonated apatites, deorganified dentine, and enamel and established that the precenters responsible for the dosimetric signal are preferentially concentrated in the surface-accessible region of the mineral component. 1998 journal article

Properties of light induced EPR signals in enamel and their possible interference with gamma-induced signals

Radiation Measurements, 29(1), 113–118.

By: S. Sholom, E. Haskell*, R. Hayes*, V. Chumak & G. Kenner*

TL;DR: Exposure of tooth enamel to natural and artificial UV light results in stable EPR signals with g-factors that are sensitive to both gamma-ray and sunlight exposure, however, their responses to light differed from that to radiation, giving rise to the possibility of using them as indicators of the dose-equivalent resulting from light exposure. 1998 journal article

Influence of crushing and additive irradiation procedures on EPR dosimetry of tooth enamel

Radiation Measurements, 29(1), 105–111.

By: S. Sholom, E. Haskell*, R. Hayes*, V. Chumak & G. Kenner*

TL;DR: A new interpretation of transient signals 1108 is proposed which explains the above phenomena and recommendations about how to use this interpretation in retrospective EPR dosimetry are given. (via Semantic Scholar)

Radiation Protection Dosimetry, 77(1), 55–63.

By: R. Hayes*, G. Kenner & E. Haskell

TL;DR: The potential for EPR dosimetry using walrus tooth cementum was examined and a complex native signal was seen in all samples, similar to that occurring in human tooth enamel. (via Semantic Scholar)
