Mesoscale modeling of complex binary fluid mixtures: Towards an atomistic foundation of effective potentials

JOURNAL OF CHEMICAL PHYSICS, 124(7).

TL;DR: This paper investigates ways to extract from equilibrium molecular-dynamics simulations of a fully atomistic model of binary mixtures of water and ethanol effective, pairwise additive potentials suitable to describe the interactions between coarse-grained molecules in corresponding mesoscale dissipative particle-dynamic simulations. By: H. Nguyen n & C. Hall n

MeSH headings : Amyloid / chemistry; Computer Simulation; Hydrophobic and Hydrophilic Interactions; Kinetics; Models, Molecular; Peptides / chemistry; Protein Structure, Secondary; Temperature; Thermodynamics

Formation mechanisms and properties of semifluorinated molecular gradients on silica surfaces

LANGMUIR, 22(20), 8532–8541.

TL;DR: Surface-sensitive combinatorial near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy is used to measure the position-dependent concentration and orientation of SFO molecules in SFO molecular gradients on flat silica surfaces and provides evidence that depending on the nature of the end group in the SFO and the vapor phase the S FO molecules add themselves into the existing SAMs either as individual molecules or as multimolecular complexes. Adsorption of Simple Gases in MCM-41 Materials: The Role of Surface Roughness

LANGMUIR, 22(1), 194–202.

TL;DR: Comparison with adsorption and neutron scattering experiments suggests that model B is too rough at the molecular scale but reproduces reasonably the surface disorder of real MCM-41 at larger length scales, while model A is smooth at small length scales in agreement with experiments but seems to be too ordered at large length scales.
