2023 journal article

TL;DR: Scenarios remained close to reality for 22 weeks on average before the arrival of unanticipated SARS-CoV-2 variants invalidated key assumptions, and an ensemble of participating models that preserved variation between models was consistently more reliable than any single model in periods of valid scenario assumptions, while projection interval coverage was near target levels. Scenario Design for Infectious Disease Projections: Integrating Concepts from Decision Analysis and Experimental Design

Runge, M. C., Shea, K., Howerton, E., Yan, K., Hochheiser, H., Rosenstrom, E., … Viboud, C. (2023, October 12).

TL;DR: A framework for scenario design in epidemiology is proposed, identifying six different fundamental purposes for scenario designs (decision making, sensitivity analysis, value of information, situational awareness, horizon scanning, and forecasting) and how those purposes guide the structure of scenarios. Potential Impact of a Diagnostic Test for Detecting Prepatent Guinea Worm Infections in Dogs

Smalley, H., Keskinocak, P., Swann, J., Hanna, C., & Weiss, A. (2023, October 31).

By: H. Smalley*, P. Keskinocak*, J. Swann n, C. Hanna & A. Weiss*

TL;DR: An agent-based simulation model is adapted for forecasting the impact of interventions on guinea worm disease in dogs to examine the interaction of multiple test factors including test accuracy, when the test can detect infection, dog selection, and dog-owner compliance with tethering recommendations and it finds that a diagnostic test could be successful if used in conjunction with existing interventions. Evaluating the Effectiveness of Potential Interventions for Guinea Worm Disease in Dogs in Chad Using Simulations

Wang, Y., Perini, T., Keskinocak, P., Smalley, H., Swann, J., & Weiss, A. (2023, May 28).

TL;DR: The results showed that elimination is most likely achieved within five years with extremely high levels of tethering and Abate, when intervention levels are uniform across district clusters, and optimization methods can inform how best to target limited resources and reach elimination faster.
