ETHYLENE-INDUCED GENE-EXPRESSION IN CARNATION PETALS - RELATIONSHIP TO AUTOCATALYTIC ETHYLENE PRODUCTION AND SENESCENCE

PLANT PHYSIOLOGY, 87(2), 498–503.

By: W. Woodson* & K. Lawton*

TL;DR: An increase in flower age was accompanied by an increase in the capacity for ethylene to induce petal in-rolling, autocatalytic ethylene production, and changes in mRNA populations suggesting that these responses are regulated by both sensitivity to ethylene and ethylene concentration. BIOCHEMICAL BASIS OF HIGH-TEMPERATURE INHIBITION OF ETHYLENE BIOSYNTHESIS IN RIPENING TOMATO FRUITS

PHYSIOLOGIA PLANTARUM, 72(3), 572–578.

By: M. Biggs*, W. Woodson* & A. Handa

TL;DR: Determination of pericarp enzyme activities involved in ethylene biosynthesis following transfer of fruits revealed that 1-aminocyclopropane-l-carboxylic acid (ACC) synthase activity declined rapidly while ethylene forming enzyme (EFE) activity declined slowly, indicating the necessity for protein synthesis.
