Interannual and Seasonal Variations in Ecosystem Transpiration and Water Use Efficiency in a Tropical Rainforest

Forests, 10(1), 14.

TL;DR: This work examined the impact of interannual and seasonal variations in climate conditions on ecosystem-level evapotranspiration and water use efficiency to determine key climatic drivers and anticipate the response of these ecosystems to climate change. (via Semantic Scholar)

Optimizing release strategies: a stepping‐stone approach to reintroduction

Animal Conservation.

By: N. Lloyd, N. Hostetter*, C. Jackson, S. Converse* & A. Moehrenschlager

TL;DR: A novel multievent model integrating encounter history and biotelemetry data is developed to evaluate reintroduction strategies for the critically endangered Vancouver Island marmot Marmota vancouverensis and suggests that using wild‐born marmots for translocations as often as possible, and stepping‐stone captive‐bred marmOTS prior to final release, will result in the best outcomes. Impact of Low-Intensity Hunting on Game Species in and Around the Kanuku Mountains Protected Area, Guyana

Frontiers in Ecology and Evolution, 7.

By: M. Hallett*, A. Kinahan, R. McGregor*, T. Baggallay, T. Babb*, H. Barnabus*, A. Wilson, F. Li*, W. Boone*, B. Bankovich*

Contributors: M. Hallett*, A. Kinahan, R. McGregor*, T. Baggallay, T. Babb*, H. Barnabus*, A. Wilson, F. Li*, W. Boone*, B. Bankovich*

TL;DR: This study shows that the impact of current hunting intensity in and around the Kanuku Mountains Protected Area remains relatively low and supports the hypothesis that Neotropical forests can support hunting pressure of <1 person/km2, and highlights the importance of considering the entire ecosystem and not simply individual populations when establishing sustainable harvesting rates for an area. Genomic prediction accuracies and abilities for growth and wood quality traits of Scots pine, using genotyping-by-sequencing (GBS) data

By: A. Calleja-Rodriguez*, J. Pan, T. Funda*, Z. Chen*, J. Baison*, F. Isik n, S. Abrahamsson*, H. Wu*

TL;DR: Genomic Best Linear Unbiased Prediction and Bayesian Ridge Regression combined with expectation maximization (EM) imputation algorithm showed higher PAs and prediction accuracies than Bayesian LASSO (BL), while PAs were similar for both pedigree- and genomic-based estimations, whereas accuracies and heritabilities were slightly higher for pedigree-based estimation. Clinical Infectious Diseases, 4.

By: A. Lin*, S. Ali*, B. Arnold*, M. Rahman*, M. Alauddin*, J. Grembi*, A. Mertens*, S. Famida* ...

Contributors: A. Ercumen*

author keywords: environmental enteric dysfunction; environmental enteropathy; early childhood intervention; nutrition; water sanitation hygiene trial
MeSH headings : Bangladesh; Child; Child, Preschool; Female; Hand Disinfection; Humans; Infant; Pregnancy; Rural Population; Sanitation; Water
TL;DR: Reductions in permeability and inflammation at ages 3 and 14 months suggest that the interventions promoted healthy intestinal maturation; however, by 28 months the WSH and nutrition arms showed elevated EED biomarkers. (via Semantic Scholar)

Jointly estimating survival and mortality: integrating recapture and recovery data from complex multiple predator systems

Environmental and Ecological Statistics, 26(2), 107–125.

author keywords: Capture-recapture-recovery; Hierarchical Bayesian; Population dynamics; State-space models
TL;DR: This integrated modelling approach provides a flexible framework to integrate multiple recapture and recovery data sources, providing a more holistic understanding of animal life history, including direct comparisons of cause-specific mortality factors and the cumulative impact of multiple mortality factors across time or space.
