T Regulatory Cell Induced Foxp3 Binds the IL2, IFNγ, and TNFα Promoters in Virus-Specific CD8+ T Cells from Feline Immunodeficiency Virus Infected Cats

AIDS Research and Human Retroviruses, 34(3), 269–276.

By: Y. Wang n, M. Nag n, J. Tuohy n, K. De Paris* & J. Fogle n

author keywords: animal models; T cell immunity; cell mediated immunity; T regulatory cell; polyfunctional T cell; CD8(+) T cell
MeSH headings : Animals; CD8-Positive T-Lymphocytes / immunology; CD8-Positive T-Lymphocytes / virology; Cats; Disease Models, Animal; Feline Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome / immunology; Feline Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome / virology; Forkhead Transcription Factors / biosynthesis; Forkhead Transcription Factors / metabolism; Immunodeficiency Virus, Feline; Interferon-gamma / genetics; Interleukin-2 / genetics; Lymphocyte Activation; Promoter Regions, Genetic; T-Lymphocytes, Regulatory / immunology; Tumor Necrosis Factor-alpha / genetics; Viremia / immunology; Viremia / virology
TL;DR: It is shown that Foxp3 inhibits IL2, TNFα, and IFNγ transcription by binding to their promoter regions in lentivirus-specific CD8+ T cells, the first description of this process during the course of AIDS lentiviral infection. (via Semantic Scholar)

Enrichment Preferences of FIV-Infected and Uninfected Laboratory-Housed Cats

VIRUSES-BASEL, 10(7).

By: C. Kennedy n, A. Thomson*, E. Griffith n, J. Fogle n, B. Lascelles, R. Meeker*, B. Sherman*, M. Gruen*

author keywords: FIV; enrichment; welfare; feline; laboratory animal
MeSH headings : Animals; Animals, Laboratory; Cats; Feline Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome / virology; Immunodeficiency Virus, Feline / physiology
TL;DR: Cats used in a longitudinal study of the effects of chronic feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) infection were used and it was found that cats elected to be brushed, preferred social interaction and play with the laser to the ball, and preferred to scratch on an inclined-box toenail conditioning object compared to a horizontal, circular toenails conditioning object. Epigenetic Modulation of CD8(+) T Cell Function in Lentivirus Infections: A Review

[Review of ]. VIRUSES-BASEL, 10(5).

By: M. Nag n, K. De Paris* & J. Fogle n

author keywords: CD8(+) T cells; T regulatory cells; CD8(+) T cell dysfunction; epigenetics; lentiviral infections; feline immunodeficiency virus; simian immunodeficiency virus; human immunodeficiency virus
MeSH headings : Animals; CD8-Positive T-Lymphocytes / immunology; Cats; Cytokines / immunology; Epigenesis, Genetic; HIV Infections / immunology; Humans; Immunodeficiency Virus, Feline; Lentivirus Infections / immunology; Lentivirus Infections / veterinary; Lymphocyte Activation; Simian Immunodeficiency Virus; T-Lymphocytes, Regulatory / immunology; Viremia / veterinary
TL;DR: Using the feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) model for lentiviral persistence, it is demonstrated that CD8+ T cells exhibit epigenetic changes such as DNA demethylation during the course of infection as compared to uninfected cats and epigenetic modulation reduces Foxp3 binding to these promoter regions. Histone Modulation Blocks Treg-Induced Foxp3 Binding to the IL-2 Promoter of Virus-Specific CD8(+) T Cells from Feline Immunodeficiency Virus-Infected Cats

VIRUSES-BASEL, 10(6).

By: M. Nag n, Y. Wang*, K. De Paris* & J. Fogle n

author keywords: Feline Immunodeficiency Virus; CD8(+) T cells; CD8(+) T cell dysfunction; T regulatory cells; Treg suppression; Foxp3; IL-2 suppression; epigenetics; histone acetylation
MeSH headings : Acetylation; Anacardic Acids / pharmacology; Animals; CD8-Positive T-Lymphocytes / immunology; CD8-Positive T-Lymphocytes / virology; Cats; Coculture Techniques; Epigenesis, Genetic; Feline Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome / immunology; Forkhead Transcription Factors / metabolism; Histones / metabolism; Immunodeficiency Virus, Feline; Interferon-gamma / immunology; Interleukin-2 / genetics; Promoter Regions, Genetic; T-Lymphocytes, Regulatory / immunology
TL;DR: Using anacardic acid (AA), a known histone acetyl transferase (HAT) inhibitor, a reduction in Foxp3 binding to the IL-2 promoter in virus-specific CD8+ T cells co-cultured with autologous Treg cells is demonstrated. (via Semantic Scholar)
